A note from my inbox:  (with comments)

Don't Buy Gas onMay 15, 2007

Don't pump gas on may 15th ...in April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices.  Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

OnMay 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companys pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.

If you agree (which I can't see why you wouldn't) resend this to all your contact list. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th"

Ahh, the art of ill-thought-out logic...

First, these numbers are only true if ALL 73 million internet users were planning on purchasing motor fuel on May 15.  I tend to go 10 days between refilling... Assuming most AMERICAN internet users (remember many are in cities and do not drive far on a daily basis) are like me, we can only assume 7.3 million would be filling their tanks on any given day.

Second, 2.292 Billion is not nearly 3 Billion dollars... it is nearly 2.3 Billion dollars.

Third, If fuel is not purchased on 5/15, it will sit in the tanks, and the tanks will remain full for 5/16, when an increased demand will hit the market.  Increased demand + fixed supply = increased prices.

Fourth, Our fuel is not expensive, compared to the global marketplace.  Much of Europe is paying 4+ Euro per Liter.  At roughly 4 liters to gallon, and very generously 1 Dollar to the Euro, that's 16+ dollars a gallon.

Fifth, It is the US Oil Companies who are losing revenue on this day.  There would be very little bullwhip effect into the Middle Eastern Crude Markets.

Sixth, You may "take the money out of their pockets" for one day-- but it will end up in their pockets whenever you end up buying your next tank.  You are reliant on your car.  Your car is reliant on Fuel.  You WILL BUY your car fuel.  And with the rules of supply and demand, you will pay more, because their will be more demand on the 16th if those who need gas the 15th wait a day to buy it, or on the 14th if they buy it early.

In summary:  If you want to lower the cost of gas, consume less as a habit.  Drive more efficient vehicles, refill less frequently.  An increased supply will lower the price. (unless the industries artificially inflate the price to make their revenues remain steadily increasing.)

I will buy gas on 5/15, but only if my fuel tank is running low -- just like every other day of the year.  I am driving a smaller lighter car now than I was a year ago, I drive fewer miles, and I get better milage.  I put my roof down and turn off my air conditioner if I'm not sitting in traffic.  I make sure my tires are properly inflated, and that my car is in excellent running order.  I'm an American... A Texan even.  I won't start riding a Moped like certain European countries, but at the same time, unless you use it for its purpose, maybe it IS time to reconsider that 8 passenger SUV, or the 3/4 Ton Pickup truck with a 7.2 liter displacement engine.  If you use it to transport 8 people, thank you for using one vehicle rather than 4-- If you use your truck for hauling rock or trailers, thank you for using your vehicle's abilities.  Yes, you're going to use more gas than me.  It's a cost of doing business.  Deal with it.

Hmm, its been a while.  Nothing terribly new from the kitchen.  Lots of yummy stuff coming out, but its all in the recipe books or too impromptu for me to publish.  I've got some great friends who came over and helped me eat some really yummy stuff and watch movies for columbus day.  I've taken a really strong liking to brownies.  umm... Not alot else goin' on.  I'm alive and doing well, and keeping quite busy.

New flavors for Ice Cream
“Meat” with bits of cooked sirloin perhaps? a white base, much like cookie dough.. Or maybe a brown gravy tasting ice cream.
“Cheese” I’m having a hard time deciding if this will be a yellow ice cream or white… I am thinking really creamy either way, chunks of chedder.
“Ice” Sweet Cream with purified water ice cubes. (maybe 1/8’s of ice cubes)
“Mixed Veggies” Frozen Veggies out of the bag (no Lima Bean) on a berry ice cream.
“Celery” Low-fat ice cream. May even put some lemon grass or sprouts in on this one.
“Rhubarb” It exists occasionally… just not enough of it in this world
“Cranberry” Where are the oceanspray people– seriously!
“Green Apple” Will have to do something to keep it from turning brown.
“Rocks” Just for kicks, have alot of candy rocks.. and a few real ones. Every bite is a gamble.
“Oyster” Oyster meat, steamed. Based on Lemon Seaweed ice cream.

Dinner last night: Potatoes almost au gratin.
Clean, slice thin 1 potato per person.  You may wish to peel your potato first. Boil with onion (optional) until they're able to easily be broken by spoon. drain.  Add dolop of alfredo sauce.  Cream or Cream of ____ soup will probably also work.  Add about pi/2 inches of Velveeta, crumbled into small chunks.  Melt and stir it all hopefully it won't be too dry or wet... adjust with water and cornstarch/flour.  Add 1.5 slices of 1/8th inch thick ham.  make hot.  Hopefully it looks sorta like you were expecting.  Enjoy.

I'm sick, so food is mushy and rather unimpressive.

I don't understand some people.  On my way back from Staples, I had pulled up to a stop light, and noticed in the distance some flashing lights coming my way... Alot of them.  And some of them were in my lane, coming right at me.  As the light was about to change, a police car came up, parked in the middle of the intersection, officer hopped out, flailed his arms yelling "don't go anywhere" in all the directions and got back in his car as 7 more police cars-- from 2 counties, and 3 towns, and the state, (later followed by a k-9 car) and a Tan Jeep Grand Cherokee looking as if they were trying to squeeeze it to a stop, made a very high speed weave around the car in the middle... coming within feet ... inches?  of my car (I was bracing for an impact already...)  What the hell was the driver thinking by not stopping?  I don't care if he had 3 zillion pounds of crack in his trunk (although, that would be very dense and I don't think the suspension would handle it)  He's not getting a better deal by running.  Anyway, I got home and out of my car as I heard roaring engines and a few sirens going the other direction... So I bet he got to the circle and found that his exits had been blocked and went all the way around back out the way he came in.  There's alot of traffic over there, so I hope nothing too serious happened to anyone else.  And there's NO WAY those cars were anywhere NEAR the speed limits.

Egads, I'm still a little shaken.  Looks like soup might go down my throat tonight.  Some quesadillas, as I'm out of bread.
